For todays blog post I have something a little different than usual. But as I said before I am changing things up a little. But before I rambled on lets get straight into it.
My cousin and I came across this gorgeous little Poke Eatery in the heart of Illovo, Johannesburg, called ONO Poke Eatery.
My first reaction to her, was “What on earth is a Poke Eatery?”.
Apparently this is not a new style or creation but it seems to be trending amongst foodies and restaurants at the moment. The word “poke” means chunk in Hawaiian. In the past poke was apparently referred to as small chunks of any meat. Nowadays, poke is mainly referred to a seafood.
In my opinion my “Poke Bowl/Salad” was just a sushi dish, unravelled and placed into a bowl… and was it DELICIOUS!!! Not only do they make amazing salads or dishes, they also make amazing fresh juices.
I opted for the California Salmon House Poke and a Beetroot and Apple juice. Not only are there amazing choices to choose from but you can also make your own bowl. The amazing ladies and gents make your bowl up right in front of you which gives the restaurant a different unique vibe.
The California Salmon bowl was amazing! It consisted of Salmon, seasonal salsa, avo, slaw, edamame and classical California dressing. I then chose black rice for the base of my bowl. I am craving it right now as type this post! 🙂
Not only do they have an amazing menu, but the actual look of the eatery is to die for! They have these amazing big swings as well as loads of greenery and a minimalistic vibe.
Something that really stood out was, outside looking in you an see a huge lit up sign reading ONO on the wall which really draws one in.
If you are looking for a different and unique place to try out and have healthy eating on the agenda, I would highly recommend you try out this eatery for a breakfast or lunch!
I love finding these little gems!! Let me know if you have tried this eatery out as well as your thoughts.
